During the week you may attend many workshops & forums which run continuously. A short bus ride takes you out to Winnebago Lake edge to see the amphibian aircraft at the seaplane base. A flight in the Ford Tri-motor gives a wonderful view of the whole area. Helicopter rides are available too and also a flight in the B-17 bomber. If you get a wet or very hot day a visit to the Museum is really amazing. A free entryis included with your AirVenture entrance fees. Of course there are many talks from aviators of the past and present at the Theatre in the Woods and also in the Museum..
The airshow takes place every afternoon and two really amazing night airshows can be seen on Wednesday & Saturday. Because of the size of the show, be prepared to walk a good distance although you can enjoy the rides on the John Deere drawn trollies which take you to various areas around the show.
At the Fly market you can find tools, old nuts & bolts or manuals of aircraft and lots of aviation memorabilia.. Four huge hangars house of aviation companies selling products and accessories that you may wish to purchase. Companies also have their aircraft on display around the grounds. EAA have their own shops too so come prepared to return with tee shirts & caps to mark the occasion of your visit.
After 7 nights here we will make our way back to Chicago visiting Harley Davidson Museum at Milwaukee on the way to O'Hare airport at Chicago. Those returning home can fly back from here to New Zealand, the rest of us will fly over to the West Coast to Portland Oregon. Here we will visit the Van's factory, WAAM Museum and the Evergreen Museum where the Spruce Goose is hosed in all its glory among other aircraft.
Next stop will be in Seattle where we will visit the Boeing Factory , the Museum of Flight, and .Paul Allen's collection of aircraft and military vehicles. Just for something completely different we will have a Lock Cruise from the Lake down to the open sea. The view from up the Columbus tower is amazing, the Underground Tour and the Chihuly Glass garden is a spectacular and colourful exhibit .
The main tour finishes after Seattle. If you would like to extend your holiday, tours can be arranged to Canada, or take an Alaskan Cruise, or wherever you wish to visit.
